Story of Seasons on the Steam Deck

Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town is Unsupported on the Steam Deck. It’s pretty easy to see why, if you launch it on the Deck all you are greeted by after the logos is a sad water buffalo.

Thankfully, the wonderful users of protondb were not deterred. Using their guidance, I was able to launch Pioneers of Olive Town and begin rehabbing my grandfather’s farm.

If you watch the walkthrough video, my first attempt at getting it working was installing Glorious Eggroll. This ended up being unnecessary, so I’ll leave it out of this writeup, but if you happen to need it for something else we do have a tutorial on installing a custom proton build using Glorious Eggroll as an example.

Protontricks & Dependencies

To get Story of Seasons running, I installed protontricks via flatpak in desktop mode. Protontricks allowed me to select and install the needed dependencies for this game.

Thankfully some users on protondb had already figured out what we needed.

The needed dependencies were: d3dcompiler_42, d3dcompiler_47, vcrun2010, vcrun2012, vcrun2013, and vcrun2015

Thanks to following these steps, I can finally realize my dream of playing a Harvest Moon game! I’m so excited to build my farm and start exploring more.
